"In the Mood for Love? You mean that Wong Kar-Wai movie where Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung just stared at each other and talked, and nothing happened except that Maggie Cheung kept changing dresses? That was a really stupid, boring movie."
Mom: Has J dated before?
Me: He had a girlfriend in college.
Mom: She was white, not Asian?
Me: Yep.
Mom: Okay, good.
"That dress makes you look too thin. It makes you look like you have a flat chest. You need to eat more and put on some weight."
Me: J has a black leather couch...
Mom: Ugh, make him throw it out and get a new one. I don't want your apartment looking like a dorm room. It's depressing.
"That girl's skirt is so short--she looks like a slut. You don't need to wear such tight clothing if you want to look nice."
Me: I liked working for Arlen Specter.
Mom: Yeah, but he didn't pay you very much.
"When you go on vacation to Germany, be careful and don't get pregnant. You're not married yet."
Mom: Is J a nice guy?
Me: Yes, he's a very nice person.
Mom: Well, you don't have a very good personality all the time. Does he know that?
"Don't ask W [one of my best friends from college] to be your bridesmaid. She's too pretty."
Mom: These pictures of Belgium in winter are pretty...wait, when did you go to Europe in the winter? Did you go to Europe again and not tell me?
Me: Uh, let's look at these other pictures of Nebraska...
"You're not going to move to the ranch and raise cows full time, are you?"
Just standing around and talking in In the Mood for Love
